For rew.'s NES Palette

These screenshots were generated by NEStopia; if you see any oddities at the top and/or bottom, that's because NEStopia's screenshots ignore overscan clip settings, thus showing the top and bottom 8 pixels that are normally hidden on an NTSC television (and in most emulators).

I take it back: this is the palette that killed Battletoads's Ragnarok Canyon, and the battlefield in Battle Chess (though the battles could just all be taking place at sunset…). FCE Ultra's got nothing on this palette's browns…

Looking at the screenshots for Metroid, I'm almost convinced that this is the palette Nintendo used for the NES games on the The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition disc (which had the first two Zelda games) and in Metroid Prime (which had the original Metroid as an unlockable — though it was hacked so that the functions of the A and B buttons were swapped, that way it would have the same "A = Shoot; B = Jump" controls as Metroid Prime).

"rew." was an interesting emulator: it was actually primarily an emulator for Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, but it had the ability to play some NES games, and even some TurboGrafx-16 games!

It was also the first emulator I ever encountered that offered reverb for the sound channels, and the ability to mix the current and previous frame for smoother video.

The Immortal

Sadly, this emulator didn't support Color Emphasis.

Battle Chess

Super Mario Bros. 3

Adventures of Lolo 3

This screenshot was modified to show both parts of the rainbow simultaneously; it looks pretty much exactly the same as actual hardware -- just less flickery.

Battletoads

This is my personal favorite line from Professor T. Bird.

Bucky O'Hare

Dragon Warrior

Metroid

This screenshot was modified to simultaneously show both the background and the platform upon which Samus is standing; it looks pretty much exactly the same as actual hardware -- just less flickery.

Dragon Warrior III
